About me

Rostyslav Artiukh is a photographer based in Oxford, whose work revolves around youth and street cultures.

Artiukh’s work creates the image of inner-city life and young people who shape these surroundings. Within the structures and architecture of the streets, he showcases the authenticity of younger generations and their passion for change. The photographer’s views have been heavily influenced by his own urban life in Ukraine. The fascination with this subject came from his knowledge of the unconventional and subversive beauty of the street. Portraits incorporating imagery of the urban environment serve as the world-building fragments of this narrative. Close-up shots portray the streets in a rough, direct and authentic way. Photographing during twilight allows Artiukh to paint a picture of youth that is marked by both beauty and rebellion. The artist views street culture as a response to social inequality. The rising generation refuses the discrimination and instead embraces their identities to create their own authentic community. Young people leave both concrete and intangible impacts on the urban ecosystem. Artiukh believes that only by observing and analysing the street space is it possible to uncover the real essence of young cultures.
